Science and Math Quiz Bee  - 2023/24

This year as part of the math and science contest we ran a Quiz Bee for all the Grades 7 - 9 students. The first round took place in the classroom and the top 3 students from each class advanced to the final. The final round saw 9 teams made up of one student from each grade, go head to head in a very competitive game of Kahoot!

We are extremely proud of all the students who made it to the final round. It was an exciting contest with lots of moving and shaking on the Leaderboard.

Congratulations to Tong, Jayda and Ploen from Team 1 who held on to 1st place for almost half of the quiz and became the overall Quiz Bee winners!  We a
lso extend a big congratulations to Team 9 for taking 2nd place and Team 5 for taking 3rd place.

PBL Term 2 - 2023/24

For the semester two PBL, the students undertook a PBL project that reflected the school's philosophy of pursuing charitable endeavours. The students were tasked with innovating, designing and creating products that would help the elderly around the home and to display them we built a house!

During this PBL the students worked in slightly bigger groups with approximately 10 students per team. This meant that each member was able to take on a different role, from a researcher, and Social Media Manager, to an advertising designer, product builder and presentation copywriter.

  • Grade 7 students were assigned the kitchen and they created some truly excellent designs. From products such as a tea tipper, to assist when pouring water from a heavy kettle to a modified walking frame and a soy yoghurt aimed at maintaining high brain function, the students worked hard to make a safe and functional kitchen environment.

  • Grade 8 students designed items for the living room. These varied from exercise machines to modified wheelchairs, through to back scratchers and a cooling pillow. The products they created were designed to make life comfortable for the elderly but also to keep them moving and work on their mobility.

  • Grade 9 students worked collaboratively to design products that would enhance the quality of life of our elderly in the bedroom and bathroom. Some of the awesome innovations included a bed frame to help with sitting up in bed, a carousel closet of drawers to stop unnecessary bending and a device to help with putting on trousers.

This was one of the most successful PBL projects to date because the students will see some of their inventions come to life in the real world. Several of the projects will be built to assist the older sisters who live at the convent.

We are so proud of all the hard work that went into making this a truly wonderful PBL project.

English Fair - 2023/24

This was the second year that we have had the English Fair and this year it was extended to include all the classes from Grades 7-9.

  • Each class were tasked with creating their own stand for the English fair. They chose their own theme and created activities for their stand.

  • The English fair was an excellent opportunity for the students to learn the basic fundamental skills for how to run and market a business.

  • All of their products, games or services had to be presented in English and on presentation day, students were asked to speak in English to people visiting their stalls.

The English fair was a really fun day with great energy, we can't wait to do this again next year! :)

PBL Term 1 - 2023/24

This year our students presented their PBL projects to Sister Atchara, Sister Kate, parents, teachers and friends.
This was the first live presentation in 4 years, so it was exciting to have such esteemed guests to whom the students could present their highly creative work.

  • Grade 7 students worked on projects to support charitable organisations

  • Grade 8 students found modern solutions to solve modern problems

  • Grade 9 students were working on projects to improve Bangkok in the future.

Full descriptions of the PBL projects can be found in the PBL tab. Here you will also see a gallery of students from each grade as they completed their projects and classroom presentations.

Science Week - 2023/24

This Science Day we displayed a number of really interesting projects from both the science classes and the elective lessons.

Electives

  • G7 - Robotics - Students have been participating in activities such as building Traffic Lights, Simon Says Game and a Self-Driving Car. Each of these was displayed so students visiting the stall could try out the different activities.

  • G8 - Food Science - This hands-on course explores the science behind the foods we eat. During Science Day, Students participated in the Cabbage pH Indicator test.

  • G9 - Forensic Science - Students got to explore what their fingerprints looked like and how common or uncommon their prints were compared to other students.

Science

  • G 7 - Students had been studying plants and animal cells. In this lab, students put a balloon with essential oils inside it, into a box to show how particles diffuse across a cell membrane.

  • G8 - Students built the following devices: toy helicopters, cup launchers, and spinning tops. The helicopters and cups are powered by wound-up rubber bands. These devices demonstrate the elastic force, which is a type of contact force that is exerted by a stretched or compressed object.

  • G9 - Projectors and Holograms - A phone plays a video inside the projector box. A light is produced from the phone's screen. The lenses inside the projector are curved pieces of glass. When the light from the phone's screen goes through them, they bend or "refract" the light. The refracted light from the lenses comes together at a certain distance, creating an image on our backdrop.
